"For me, skiing has been my first spiritual teacher" - Evelina Nilsson

In this blog interview, we have the pleasure of speaking with Evelina Nilsson, a  passionate freedom skier and yoga teacher from Sápmi Sweden who fell in love with the sport at the young age of three. Evelina shares her experiences on the slopes, her motivation for pursuing the sport, and her view on holistic health.

Evelina also shares her memorable experience at the Sister Summit, where she learned and grew with amazing souls dedicated to making a positive impact on earth.

When did you first start skiing?

I started skiing at the age of three. My dad, who loves skiing and being out in nature, brought me and my three older siblings to the mountains. That's how we spent time as a family growing up. I remember the feeling of freedom and love at first sight. Skiing has been the love of my life since that first day.

What is your favorite part about being on the slopes?

For me, skiing has been my first spiritual teacher. Being out on the mountain I feel one with myself, the people around me and nature. I am reminded of my natural state of being, which is joy, freedom, love. I learn so much about myself through skiing. Every day is a new day and opportunity for growth. I love that I can constantly push myself and evolve through the different challenges that I meet on the journey.

Tell us more about your experience at the Sister Summit

It was truly amazing and remarkable in so many ways. I had the luxury of spending time with the founders, and people volunteering before the event. I was touched by the love and devotion that lay at the very foundation of this movement. Coming into the summit with this knowledge brought me so much appreciation and respect for everyone involved and part of the event. Every single one who was there brought something unique and beautiful to the creation. To be able to spend time in the mountains with amazing souls who are dedicated to make a positive impact on earth. To give their all, that makes me truly happy and inspired.

We had amazing days of riding together in the deepest snow I have ridden. On top of the days on the mountain, we also had great talks and gatherings during the morning and evenings. We learned about different breath techniques, how to make and grow your own business, mental work, dancing, energy work, diversity in our sports, nutrition, environment, snow safety and so much more. The whole week was filled with love, honesty, authenticity and inspiration. I believe we all made a change that everyone could feel within themselves and a strong desire to keep on pushing and findings ways of raising the frequency in our unique ways.

What is your biggest motivation to pursue the sport?

For me it has always been about being the best version of myself that I can be. When I was four years old and graduating from kindergarten (we were living in the U.S at the time), we all got to go on stage and tell the audience our dream. Little Evelina said, ”When I grow up I will become a doctor. I'm going to cure all illness in the world with a pill” For me, this statement has been with me my whole life. It's not about what we do in life, it's how we do it. As I have reflected on this calling, I see the pill being love and that we are all doctors in some sort. We just have to choose it.

With that being said, my motivation is to bring about a positive change. To open up someone´s eyes to remember that they are the creator, that they are free beings and that anything is possible. It does not even have to be about skiing but about igniting the drive for someone to go follow their own dreams. To live true to their highest excitement and be who they came here to be.

How do you recover after a tournament?

I take some time for myself. Sleep a lot. Meditate, do yoga, eat and drink good nourishing food and go skiing!

What is your view on holistic health?

All my life I have been curious about the body, mind and spirit. How to balance and nourish all aspects of myself. I see how everything is connected so I need to address all parts. I see this as a fun journey of getting to know myself, accept myself and become the creator.

Tell us your favorite tips to staying nourished while doing high intensity sports

We are all different beings that crave our specific ways to be in balance. For me it's all about findings moments, in between the activities, to rest and take deep breaths. I always start my day in silence and end them in silence, through meditation and/or yoga. I make sure I sleep when I feel tired and eat when I am hungry. And I choose to nourish my body with pure foods that resonate to me. If I really crave something, then my body probably benefits from it. I believe it's all about finding your own unique way of being happy and healthy and everyone is different so there is no right or wrong way of doing anything.

What is your mantra to live by?

They vary from time to time but one that is always there is, ”All in, All the way.”

Evelina Nilsson's love for skiing goes beyond the thrill of the sport. For her, skiing has been a spiritual teacher, a means to connect with herself, others, and nature. Her pursuit of the sport is not only for personal growth but also to inspire and motivate others to follow their dreams. With her holistic approach to health and her mantra "All in, All the way," Evelina reminds us to nourish and balance all aspects of ourselves to live our best lives.
